Custom ROM flashers rejoice! CyanogenMod, the popular aftermarket firmware based on Google’s open-source Android operating system has finally released the much-awaited CyanogenMod 13.0 Release 1 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update. The custom ROM brings all the goodness of Android Marshmallow along with the usual add-ons from Cyanogen. It is compatible with a list of 39 smartphones, including the Nexus 6P , OnePlus One , Moto E (2015) , Nexus 5X ,
Nexus 4 , Nexus 7 2013 (Wi-Fi) , LG G2 , ZUK Z1 and Oppo Find 7 among others.

Android Marshmallow goodies such as the battery saving ‘doze’ functionality where apps go on standby when the smartphone is left untouched is present. The new apps permission to control the information you share with apps, improved volume control, ‘adoptive’ flex storage and native support for fingerprint scanners are some features that CyanogenMod 13.0 Release 1 brings along.

Besides the above features, there are some CyanogenMod add-ons too that differentiate the ROM from Google’s Pure Android OS. While Google has restricted access to certain features, CyanogenMod custom ROMs aim to offer users with complete freedom over their Android phone. Let’s take a quick look at some of these features that CyanogenMod 13.0 offers.

With CyanogenMod 13.0, a lot of changes have been made to the settings menu. Under Settings > Status Bar you can now choose status bar icons of your choice, under Settings > Memory, you can now view memory usage for a select period of time, Settings > Lock screen > Owner Info has now been replaced by ‘Lock screen message,’ triple tap on Settings > About Phone > Build Date now runs the demo mode. There is also a new Snap Camera app and new SMS/MMS app which enabled ‘Quick Reply’ feature right from the notification panel.

Cyanogen’s C-Apps have also been updated.

These include the Theme Store with more than 200 downloadable themes to personalize the look of the UI, AudioFX audio equalizer for enhanced audio listening experience, Dialer app integrated with TrueCaller to identify and notify you about the unknown caller, and much more.

There is also an email app powered by Boxer, allowing you to sync multiple email accounts in one app and Cyanogen Account giving you access to locate your device, apply remote lock and remote wipe if lost or stolen.

Sadly, there is no mention about Mods, the native app experience that Cyanogen announced at MWC 2016 . At the time of filing the story, Cyanogen has been uploading the CyanogenMod 13.0 Release 1 builds for compatible devices. Once the upload is complete and available for download, you will be able to download them from here .
