Spotify expands Premium Duo subscription

Spotify today announced it is expanding Premium Duo, a feature that allows two people who live at the same place — say couples or flatmates — to share one subscription plan while maintaining their own individual accounts, to dozens of new markets.

Premium Duo is a remarkable concept from Spotify, which it first began testing in March last year and expanded to 19 markets months later. Starting Wednesday, Spotify Premium Duo is now available in 55 markets.

The new subscription offering is remarkable mostly because it’s solving a problem that very few people face today. At a glance, it appears that Premium Duo is designed to help people save money and gain access to a shared playlist that represents music they both cherish.

Today, Spotify launched in 13 new markets across Europe, bringing the total number of markets to 92. Spotify now supports video podcasts

The company announced the news today, saying that all users where podcasts are supported will be able to not only listen to these shows but also watch them, both on desktop and mobile. For now, though, only certain podcasts are able to post the video to Spotify.

Spotify has struck a new global multi-year licensing deal with Vivendi's Universal Music Group (UMG). The music label will reinforce Spotify's catalogue and products. It will also collaborate on new, state-of-the-art marketing campaigns across Spotify's platform, which means the label will be paying Spotify to promote its artists.

The lyrics feature works now and is synced to the music. It is also displaying lyrics of a few Hindi songs. For some songs, it is displaying all the lyrics at once and isn't synced with the music.
