Wellington, McGrath named in Australia Women's ODI squad

Amanda Wellington, the 19-year-old South Australian legspinner, and Tahlia McGrath, the all-rounder, have been added to the Australia Women's Squad for the final two One-Day Internationals (ODIs) against South Africa to be played in Coffs Harbour. The hosts won the first three games of the series to take an unassailable 3-0 lead in the five-match rubber and win the inaugural International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Championship.

Wellington and McGrath, who represent Breezair SA Scorpions in the Women's Big Bash League, partook in the game played between South Africa and Governor General's XI set-up and did well in their roles.

The pair also helped South Australia clinch their first Women's National Cricket League (WNCL) title last season and has managed to carry forward their form into this season as well. Wellington is the joint top wicket-taker this season, with 13 scalps at 17.61. McGrath too has impressed, compiling 221 runs at an average of 36.83 to go with her 10 wickets.

"Amanda and Tahlia have both come through the Cricket Australia Female Pathway System and have improved each year," National Selector Shawn Flegler said. "Amanda has always impressed with her leg spin and has worked hard on the other parts of her game.

"Tahlia has taken her game to another level this season and is developing into a very good all-round cricketer. We believe both ... girls have a big future and look forward to seeing them take their opportunities," he said.

Kristen Beams, the 32-year-old legspinner, who has been in prime form in ODIs this year, with 18 wickets to her name, has been named in the side although she is struggling with a dislocated finger. Her availability for the final two ODIs will depend on how quickly she recovers from the injury. Elysse Perry, however, has recovered from a groin injury and is available for selection for the remainder of the five-match series.

Holly Ferling, the 20-year-old Queensland seamer, has been released from the squad in order to give her time to prepare for WNCL final against New South Wales Women.
