Don't touch that upgrade button until at least October, Sony warns

Sony is warning VAIO laptop and PC owners that they should wait until as long as November before upgrading to Windows 10, because the company hasn't yet got drivers ready for the new operating system. Although Windows 10 has been available for public preview for almost a year, it seems Sony's support team has been caught dawdling.

A message on Sony's European support site, first spotted by Myce, includes a stark message warning users: "DO NOT UPGRADE YET".

"To ensure your VAIO PC works with Windows 10, it is strongly recommended that you wait to upgrade your PC until the drivers are ready," the message adds.

It then lays out a timetable for when VAIO owners can expect upgrade instructions and drivers. Those laptops originally shipped with Windows 8.1 can expect Sony to provide the goods by October, while systems that shipped with the original Windows 8 are being told to hold fire until November.

Meanwhile, those who bought Windows 7 PCs from the company are seemingly in limbo, with Sony warning that it will provide "information regarding limitations and issues" for this constituency of users later this month. "We are testing supported models and will be providing the results as quickly as possible," Sony states, somewhat apologetically.

One of the reasons Sony may be struggling to support Windows 10 is that it sold the VAIO brand to a Japanese investment fund in 2014. It's not clear whether support for old VAIO models is being handled by Sony or the new company, but Sony will have doubtless downsized its PC support staff when the brand was sold, whilst the new firm only had 240 employees at the time of the sale.

I couldn't not able to update my vaio, it fails always. Might be due to driver mismatch...

If driver issue then you have to wait but in my case Lenovo thinks my 6 years old laptop isn't compatible with Windows 10 so they didn't issue any driver. Thankfully I don't have to download any driver(except NVIDIA graphics driver which I download directly from NVIDIA website) as windows 10 is running fine. So I think this PC manufacturer wants us to purchase new pc every time when Microsoft release new Windows that's why they stop supporting driver for older device.

Are you getting any error code ? If yes then you can check here for solution

I too upgraded my vaio. But look at Sony's arrogance, issuing the statement almost after 3 weeks the upgrade rolled out.
