Sony Pictures Networks India’s sports channels Sony Six and Sony Six HD are set to broadcast the 105th edition of the Australian Open beginning 16 January through 29 January.

The morning session of the tourney will be broadcast at 5:30 am, followed by the afternoon session at 1:30 pm. The matches will also be streamed live on the Sony Liv app and website as well as ESPN.in.

This year’s Australian Open coverage in India will be enriched with ESPN’s global wraparound programming featuring several former champions, including legends such as seven-time grand slam winner John McEnroe, Chris Evert, Pam Shriver and Brad Gilbert.

These experts will provide insights and analysis of match action and a customised experience for Indian fans enjoying the live action from Down Under. All in all, India fans can enjoy a superior viewing experience with the ‘Game around the Game’ presented by the Sony–ESPN collaboration in India.

The 105th edition of the Australian Open will take place at Melbourne Park. The tournament, which is the first of the four Grand Slam tennis events of the calendar year, recently announced a record prize stake of AUD 50 million for the players, making it the second-highest prize purse in tennis. The all-star field for the opening Grand Slam of 2017 will see Andy Murray and Angelique Kerber start as top seeds of the tournament. It will also be notable for six-time tournament champion Serena Williams, who will be attempting to claim her 23rd major singles title to surpass Steffi Graf and set a new record for the Open Era. On the men’s side, world number two Novak Djokovic will be aiming to hoist the trophy for a record seventh time.

It is a known fact that players like Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal and Serena Williams are the names that will headline Australian Open 2017. But with 256 other names in the draw, there are plenty more players to watch out for like Grand Slam champions Petra Kvitova and Samantha Stosur, Aussie young gun Daria Gavrilova and fan favourite Caroline Wozniacki. Further adding even more star power to the line-up will be players Milos Raonic, Stan Wawrinka, Kei Nishikori and Dominic Thiem, to name a few.

SPNI president, distribution and sports Rajesh Kaul said, “For viewers, the Australian Open, sets the tone that resonates for all the major tennis events that follow over the year. Fans will get to watch some of world’s best players return to Australia and experience some of the finest moments in the history of the tournament. This year the excitement is mounting with the return of tennis legends, Federer and Nadal, known for their on-court rivalry along with the defending champions and whole new crop of talent.”

SPNI EVP and head of digital business Uday Sodhi said, “Sony Liv is all about making world-class entertainment more accessible to the viewers and we are committed towards it. Keeping in mind the level of enthusiasm for tennis as a sport amongst the millennials, we are glad to provide the best of tennis action on our digital platform.”

Tennis, in the last few decades, has seen a phenomenal surge in popularity around the world. With the broadcast of the Australian Open, SPNI has further validated its positioning as the premier destination of tennis along with the ATP’s premium tier events, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 events and the ATP World Tour 500 events alongside the prestigious season-ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

Sony should broadcast it in dual feed. Give option to viewers to watch another match on Sony ESPN/Ten, they have resources. It's a grand slam. What's the point of giving only lip service?

Istomin is putting the wild in wild cards. He broke Djokovic in 5th set. Seriously Novak is looming for an early 2nd round exit :(
