The report further mentions Sony has been busy with doing groundwork for stepping up its production.

After a request from Apple, Sony in January decided to purchase a plant from Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronics, according to a source involved in the negotiations.

Sony already supplies the CMOS sensors for Apple’s primary camera on iPhones.

Sony has been doing very good in camera sensor as is evident in the use of its Xperia range of smartphones launched in 2012 and 2013.

The sensor used in the latest iPhone 5S is presumably from Sony and has received good reviews.

This came with a bigger pixels for better low-light exposure, among other benefits.
