Soon after Indian tennis ace Sania Mirza and Switzerland’s Martina Hingis won the Wimbledon women's doubles title, BBC India made a faux pas by just mentioning that it was Hingis who had won while completely ignoring Mirza. Its tweet said, "Hingis wins Wimbledon doubles final".

However, the tweet irked Bharatiya Janata Party leader and Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani who publicly raised an objection over the same. In a reply to BBCIndia, Smriti tweeted, "So does Sania Mirza."

Soon after Smriti's tweet, BBCIndia was forced to issue a clarification and pull out its post. It posted another tweet with the correction stating, "India's Sania Mirza wins women's Wimbledon doubles with Martina Hingis: (Correcting earlier tweet - apologies!).

BBC India's tweet generated furore on the social media with several posts alleging the news organisation of 'racism'. Clariying the mistake, BBC tweeted, "It was an automated tweet, which we corrected and apologised for (sic)."

Hingis and Mirza beat Russia's Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina 5-7 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 in a thrilling women's doubles final at the Wimbledon.

all Indians will accept that

The news should be more about BBC mistake, but as usual we have a politician who has become the centre point of attention... smh...
The news is exaggerated in such a way that it makes appear like she is the only one who spotted the mistake...

bro only she reported the mistake... she doesn't want to gain any publicity... It was not only Martin Hingis efforts for achieving that title... Sania was also part of that achievement...

assume you and your friend achieve something and your school/college principal praised only about your friend and not about you

and if some teacher/professor will come against this step and also favours you... will u call him attention seeker??
