Smartphone maker OnePlus will launch its own e-commerce portal — oneplusstore.in — for the India market, through which it will begin selling accessories and fan merchandise, during the festive season, a top executive said.
The company which sells smartphones in the US and Europe primarily through its own portal and carriers, said that it will sell smartphones in India through the new platform in the following quarters, while its first offline store in the world – experience center – will come up in Bengaluru by the year end.
“Having our own e-commerce platform will make the purchase experience for consumers and fans even better, and ensure that consumer gets genuine product,” Vikas Agarwal, general manager – India, OnePlus, told ET. “Shipping phones online is a complicated process and right now demand is outstripping supply, especially during festive season, so we will sell through Amazon for some foreseeable future,” Agarwal added.
The online store will go live within this week and will sell exclusive products including apparel and lifestyle accessories, to draw customers.
With its own ecommerce portal Shenzen-headquartered OnePlus now joins the likes of Xiaomi, LeEco, Lenovo and Micromax, which have started their own online channels, through which they are offering exclusive deals and discounts on certain products in recent months.
