Seagate launches 2TB and 5TB mobile storage drives in India...

NEW DELHI: Storage solutions manufacturer Seagate has launched two mobile consumer storage drives in India - 2TB FireCuda and 5TB BarraCuda. The company, however, hasn't announced any details about the price and availability of the devices yet.
The 2TB FireCuda is claimed to be Seagate's "fastest, thinnest and lightest 2TB hard drive in the market". The drive uses 8GB of flash to offer better loading times for large files. Seagate explains that the FireCuda includes new firmware with algorithms that analyze how a system is being used.
"These algorithms then get to work tweaking every aspect of FireCuda's operations so that the drive is always perfectly synchronous with the unique way each user works and plays," says the company. The process is called as Multi-Tier Caching. The drive backed by a 5 year limited warranty.

On the other hand, the 5TB BarraCuda storage is claimed to offer "best-in-class" performance for mobile PC computing. It will be available in 7mm mobile or laptop upgrade designs, and a 15mm thin design for external solutions. The drive is available in three form factors that are suitable for laptop/mobile storage, desktop/all-in-one storage and high performance desktop/gaming storage. It's backed by a 2 year limited warranty.
On a related note, Sandisk last month showcased a prototype of arguably the largest capacity SDXC card till date. The prototype memory card comes with 1TB storage capacity and is aimed at photo and video professionals.
Samsung, too, last month launched its next-gen Solid State Drives - 960 EVO and 960 Pro, at its 5th annual SSD Global Summit conference in Seoul, South Korea. Among the two, the 960 Pro is the successor to last year's 950 Pro with under-the-hood improvements. It's claimed by the company to be the fastest M.2 NVMe SSD. The 'Pro' version is also more powerful than the 'EVO' variant. Like their predecessors, these two also come with different storage options.
