SanDisk launches new wireless mobile flash drive in India

Flash storage solutions provider, SanDisk Corporation, has expanded its mobile memory storage solutions suite with the launch of SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick, a new wireless mobile flash drive, in the Indian market.

“With more and more content being consumed on multiple handheld devices, we realised that there is a need to reinvent our category of mobile memory solutions. The new wireless drive, compatible with iOS and Android, is designed to meet the growing storage needs of today’s generation,” said Jagannathan Chelliah, director (marketing – India and Saarc), SanDisk.

Quoting a CyberMedia Research report, Chelliah said running out of space was the primary problem faced by smartphone users in India, with almost 20 per cent of users facing the problem once a month, and eight per cent on a daily basis.

SanDisk Connect Wireless Drive, available up to 200GB of capacity, features an intuitive app which enables transfer of photos and videos wirelessly, stream HD movies and music to up to three devices simultaneously, share content with multiple devices at once, and automatically back up the camera roll, all via password-protected Wi-Fi connectivity. The drive comes in capacities from 16GB to 128GB, with prices ranging from Rs 2,390 to Rs 9,990.

According to Chelliah, SanDisk currently enjoys a 37 per cent share of the 900-million-unit memory solutions retail market in India, which comprises flash, USB, microSD and camera cards.

Stating that smartphone penetration and increasing adoption of USBs are the key drivers for growth, Chelliah said the company was currently sharpening its focus on increasing the workforce at its 600-member research and development centre at Bengaluru, which played a critical role in designing the memory control part of all its products.
