After partnering with Bharti Airtel, Chinese handset manufacturer Huawei Technology might provide 4G devices to pan-India Broadband Wireless Access license holder Relinace Jio Infocomm.
“Testing of our 4G LTE smartphones and dongles as part of their pilot project in Mumbai is on with Reliance Jio Infocomm. We are working very closely with them and will be able to provide our 4G offerings,” Victor Shan, President of Huawei Devices India told Light Reading India.
Last year, the company announced its collaboration with India’s leading telco Bharti Airtel to introduce the country's first Long Term Evolution Time Division Duplex smartphone-Ascend P1 smartphone. Bharti has launched 4G services in Kolkata, Bengaluru, Pune and Chandigarh.

The company has launched its 6.1 inch Ascend Mate phablet in India at an aggressive price of Rs 24,900. “We will launch more high-end smartphones at reasonable price points in India and our next launch will be Ascend P6,” said Shan.
On pricing of its 4G LTE devices, Shan said, “Our 4G LTE devices for the Indian market will be available at reasonable prices. The price range of average high-end 4G LTE devices is $400-$500. We will launch our 4G LTE offerings at reduced price in India.”
The company has also appointed Redington as the national distributor for its products in the country. Huawei presently has 35 regional distributors in the country. “Our strategy is to boost our brand value, strengthening channel reach and to go for high-end mid range product expansion this year,” Shan explained.
Last year, Huawei Devices did revenues of $300 million with 20 percent yearly growth. The company shipped 10 million units in the Indian market, including phones, dongles and CPEs.
“Our revenues for this year will be similar to what we did last year. Our primary aim is to increase our presence in the Indian market,” Shan added.
The company is also expecting 3 percent share of the total Indian smartphone market by the end of this year. The company targets to break into the top three smartphone brands in India over the period of four-to-five years.
Globally, the company’s revenues from the device segment stood at $7.5 billion with CAGR of 40 percent.
