Azhar Ali fined 100 percent match fee for slow over-rate

Pakistan captain Azhar Ali has been fined 100 percent of his match fee while the rest of the players in the squad have been hit with 50 percent fines each for slow over-rate on the fifth day of the second Test against New Zealand in Hamilton, that the hosts won by 138 runs. This is the second time Pakistan have been pulled up for an over-rate related offence in the series, after Misbah-ul-Haq was handed a match ban for the indiscretion in the first Test.

In an official release, International Cricket Council stated that in accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 percent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount.

The charges were laid by Sundaram Ravi and Simon Fry, the two on-field umpires, third umpire Ian Gould and fourth official Shaun Haig. Azhar pleaded guilty to and accepted the sanction.
