If I am not wrong, there was able captainship of Rahane, who lead from front in second test. His hundred was series changing one. Yes, everyone contributed in that series but his innings was crucial one. Gill and Pant has scored heavily. Pant has scored hundred on previous tour as well. The way Gill taken on Starc was commendable. Did you see the pull shot against Starc in front of square? I have seen only two good pullers of ball like that, Rohit in white ball and Ricky Ponting in test cricket. Sunder, Thakur, Pant, Saini, Natarajan was equally good against good batting line up. Look at that shot against Lyon by Sunder. Pant as well.Your post is long so i read half but
If india can beat with swiging medium pace bowlers then paks also can they just need to put presser by good swing bowling
Also one of pak openers need to go big and one needs to play like crawley or pant / stokes tupe in lower order to get past whatever aus put
Its interesting to see aus go with starc + morris or stick with same 3 pace trio of hazle + cummins and starc
Also lets see pak include a specialist spinner or not
We had good records against Australia in Australia in last twenty years. Pakistan don't have. That was not the first century by Rahane on Australia soil. In one of the tests in 2014, he played well with Kohli, if you remember. They have new captain(who is just like Tim Paine) this time around and is 34 years old. I am not against age. But he is not Imran Khan. We dropped Saha from first test to give chance to Rishab Pant. So many good players from Pakistan has gone into wilderness. I remember one wicketkeeper batsman was there who got threats and we didn't see him again. Sarfaraz Ahmed who didn't play since many years, is still in the team as a keeper. Shaheen Shah Afridi is not Siraj, nor Akram as well. He was bowling at 120-125kmph mark in ODI set up. This is test match. In Australia where bowling 90 overs is big tasks for bowlers. Big grounds. Don't compare him with Siraj. Siraj really bowled well in that series. I guess he bowled seven or eight over spell in one of the innings with full intesity. See the odds against him in that series. He lost his father. He faced racism from audience. Still he got fifer in one of the innings. And Shardul got a four fer. Coming back to Shardul. Can Faheem get 4fer? I hope you must have seen his bowling lot of times. Can he score 67 against the bowling line up of Starc, Cummins, Hazelwood? Look at the shots Shardul played against them when everything was down. They are at their peak cricket. See what they have achieved this year. Ashes, WTC, World Cup. They don't have Naseem Shah as well, who is best bowler from Pakistan currently. Noone even comes close now. Abrar Ahmed who was second hope can't play first test(As Australia have too many left handers, I thought he could be X factor). Rest of the bowlers are pretty ordinary, I believe. Test match is won by taking 20 wickets. This unit doesn't have that capacity.
They don't have any player of Pant/Crawley/Ben Stokes capacity and ability. These are once in a generation players.
Crawley and Sibley has similar records in test cricket. But Sibley dropped after 22 tests and Crawley got persisted with. Infact Crawley was not even first choice opener when Rory Burns and Sibley was there. Crawley used to come one down. Crawley is just 25 years old and you will see what he can achieve in next four to five years.
Abdullah
Imam
Shan
Babar
Saud Shakeel
Rizwan/Sarfaraz
Faheem
Shadab
Shaheen
This will be ideal team. Apart from Babar and Abdullah, I don't see any other player fighting against this Australian team.
