NVIDIA has announced the launch of the Jetson TX1 module development board, which will be available in India through their distributor – Rashi Peripherals. It is a an embedded computer design that can process deep neural networks, and the company belives that it will enable a new generation of autonomous and smart machines that can learn.

Jetson TX1 features include a 256-core Maxwell architecture-based GPU, 64-bit ARM A57 CPUs, 4GB RAM and 16GB storage. The camera supports 1400MP per second and 4K video encode and decode. Connectivity on the device includes Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, and has support for Linux for Tegra.

NVIDIA wants Jetson TX1 to create a new wave of smart devices – for example drones that do not need a remote control to fly, but can autonomously navigate their way for search and rescue missions. The company further gave example of a security system that not only scans the crowd, but is also able to identify suspicious activities. Jetson TX1 will help incorporate capabilities like computer vision, machine learning and more.

According to NVIDIA, Jetson TX1 is the first embedded computer designed to process deep neural networks, allowing for computer software to interpret information or recognise objects. It will allow the ability for computers to perform complex tasks like processing conversational speech, recognising images, analysing objects to navifated around and more.

Jetson TX1 is able to deliver 1 teraflops of performance while drawing very little power.
“From advanced robotics to drones, intelligent machines with deep learning capabilities are transforming the world as we know it,” said Vishal Dhupar, managing director, South Asia, NVIDIA. “With the Jetson TX1, India’s innovators from startups to academia and research can harness the power of parallel computing on mobile embedded products with applications limited only by one’s imagination.”

NVIDIA Jetson TX1 will also be available with a Developers Kit that can help users develop and test their autonomous devices. It will be available in India at Rs 78,500.
