NVIDIA has announced its 900 series
graphics card with the launch of two
cards – the single GPU flagship NVIDIA
GTX 980 and its younger sibling, the
NVIDIA GTX 970. Based on the 28nm manufacturing process, the GTX 980 will be the first high end card based on the Maxwell architecture sporting the GPU
codenamed GM204.

We had seen the lower end of the Maxwell architecture with the GTX 750/ GTX 750Ti in the last
generation. The pricing for cards which will start selling today are Rs 46,000 for the GTX 980 and Rs 28,000 for the GTX 970.

The pricing will vary from vendor
to vendor based on the value additions they provide.

NVIDIA GTX 980 While the GTX 750Ti was based on the Maxwell GPU codenamed GM107, the
GTX 980 as well as the GTX 970 will be based on the Maxwell GPU codenamed GM204.

The GTX 980 will sport 16 stream multiprocessors with 2048 CUDA
cores. It will be clocked at 1126MHz
with the Boost clock going to 1216MHz.

The memory subsystem of GeForce GTX 980 consists of four 64-bit memory controllers (256-bit) with 4GB of GDDR5 memory. The GeForce GTX 980 reference board measures 10.5-inch in length. Display outputs include one
dual-link DVI, one HDMI and three
DisplayPort connectors. Two 6-pin PCIe power connectors are required for operation.

Despite having such high end
configurations, the GTX 980 manages to keep the TDP around 165 Watts on load.
