It has already been a few months since Android 7.0 Nougat was released for Nexus devices. Google then introduced Android 7.1 with its Pixel smartphones and earlier this week it rolled out Android 7.1.1 which includes several new features and improvements. Samsung is yet to release Nougat for its devices but it has been running a beta program through which select users can test beta builds of Android 7.0 on their Galaxy S7 or Galaxy S7 edge.

In response to a query from a member of the Galaxy Beta Program, Samsung has confirmed that the public release of Nougat will start with Android 7.1.1.

Android 7.1.1 is a minor update, it includes a new set of emoji, the ability to send GIFs directly from the keyboard in select apps and makes life easier by adding app shortcuts directly to the home screen. Users can launch actions on apps like Twitter and Google Maps by long pressing the app icon.

Samsung hasn’t confirmed when it’s going to publicly release Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge at least, it’s expected that the rollout will begin early next year.

Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge Android Nougat 7.1.1 update to roll out in January

Samsung started rolling out Android Nougat beta updates for Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge users last month. Now the company has announced that the fourth beta update released last week will be the last, and the official build will start rolling out to users in January.

Samsung has sent a message to its beta testers via the Galaxy Members app, informing them that the Android Nougat beta program ends at midnight. It further says that no new beta updates will be rolled out, and there will also be no feedback for individual error reporting or suggestions, Sammobile reports. One sentence on the message however caught our eye, which reads — “We would do our best to distribute the official version in January as soon as possible.”

In addition to new features and fixes, Android Nougat 7.1.1 will also bring a host of visual changes. These include new shortcuts to Samsung’s apps, new icons, new layout for Quick Panel, new clock styles for always on display, and more. Android Nougat also brings in new features like multi-window support allowing you to use two apps simultaneously, and double tap to switch between them, improved doze mode for longer battery life, bundled notifications and quick reply to messages from notifications.

It’s not just Samsung that is rolling out Android Nougat update for its smartphones. Motorola recently rolled out the update for its smartphones like the Moto G4, Moto G4 Plus , and Moto X Style. Sony rolled out the update for the Xperia XZ, and has also promised to roll out for other devices including Xperia Z3 Plus , Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact , Xperia X, Xperia XA , Xperia XA Ultra , Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia X Compact. HTC too has rolled out the update for the HTC 10 smartphone, while Xiaomi has promised updates for the Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note and Mi Max.

Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 edge Android Nougat update to reportedly roll out on January 17

After its release earlier last year, Android’s latest OS iteration, Nougat, is being (really) gradually rolled out to all eligible devices. After more than four months of its official launch the new operating system is finally making its way to Samsung’s 2016 flagship, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. According to a screenshot shared by The Android Soul , the update should hit the European Galaxy S7 edge, SM-G935F models on that date. Now, there is no word when the update will hit the other countries, but once it’s released in Europe, it should immediately be rolled out world over as well.

Another report on Telegiz suggests that Samsung has already started to rollout the Android Nougat update to select Galaxy S 7 and Galaxy S7 edge smartphones, on the pretext of a soak test, before it is released for all. Soak tests allow select users to try out new software before it rolls out to all devices. If users report no issues with the software, Samsung should quickly proceed to sending Android Nougat to more handsets. Soak tests are always a good sign as they indicate a global roll out soon.

The build G935FXXU1DPLR includes the software, which will be Samsung’s official Android Nougat update in addition to Google’s security patch software for January. With this update, most Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge handsets will update to Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The report also suggests that once the full rollout for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge is done, the Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 edge Plus and Galaxy Note 5 are next in line.

Motorola recently rolled out the update for its smartphones like the Moto G4 , Moto G4 Plu s, and Moto X Styl e. OnePlus also rolled out the update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T smartphones. Sony rolled out the update for the Xperia XZ, and has also promised to roll out for other devices including Xperia Z3 Plus, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5 , Xperia Z5 Compact , Xperia X , Xperia XA , Xperia XA Ultra , Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia X Compact. HTC too has rolled out the update for the HTC 10 smartphone, while Xiaomi has promised updates for the Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note and Mi Max.

Samsung Galaxy S7, Galaxy S7 Edge get Android 7.0 Nougat update

Samsung has reportedly begun rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update for its Galaxy S7 ,
Galaxy S7 edge smartphones. Much to everyone’s surprise, the update has been made available a week prior to the official schedule. Earlier reports had claimed that Samsung will be rolling out the final version of Nougat on January 17.

As reported by Sammobile , users running beta version will get an update of 215MB in size. Regular users, updating their phones for the first time, will also receive the update. Beta users may get the update bit later as Samsung is reportedly giving preference to new comers. While users will get a notification for the update, they can also manually check for availability of the update by heading over to Settings -> About Phone -> Software Update.

Please note that Samsung is rolling out Android 7.0 and not 7.1.1, but includes the latest security patch. Back in November last year, Samsung had rolled out a beta program for its users to get started with Android Nougat.

Android 7.0 Nougat brings many new features to the smartphone some of them being- split-screen multi-tasking, customizable quick settings and new Google keyboard. The update also helps users save battery and consume less memory when screen is turned off which further helps saving battery life. Google has also revamped the notifications bar with inline reply feature, which will let you reply to text messages without having to open the app. Google has also included a Daydream VR mode in Android Nougat. The update also fixes bugs and also brings performance improvements as compared with Android Marshmallow.

While Android Nougat is coming to Samsung’s flagship devices, other companies have already rolled out the update to some of their smartphones. Recently, smartphones like the Moto G4 , Moto G4 Plus , Moto X Style, Asus Zenfone 3 ZE520KL, Asus Zenfone 3 ZE552KL , Xperia Z3 Plus, Xperia Z4 Tablet, Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact, Xperia X, Xperia XA, Xperia XA Ultra, Xperia Z5 Premium, Xperia X Performance, and Xperia X Compact have received the update. HTC too has rolled out the update for its HTC 10 smartphone, while Xiaomi has promised updates for the Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note and Mi Max .
