As Android 5.0 Lollipop goes official with the Nexus 6 and the Nexus 9, Motorola has just announced plans to rollout the update to nine of its smartphones from 2013 and 2014. The list includes both generations of the Moto X and the Moto G (plus the LTE Moto G), the Moto E, the Verizon Droid Ultra, Droid Mini and the Droid Maxx. The company is known for running an almost stock version of Android on its smartphones, so this hasn’t come as a surprise to us.

The fact that even budget offerings like the Moto E is included in the list is worthy of praise. Motorola has only mentioned that the update will roll out sometime in the coming months with no specificity. But considering that all of its devices run stock builds of Android, it shouldn’t take long for the rollout to begin. It’s quite clear that the company’s devices will be in the front line to receive the update compared to Samsung, HTC, Sony and LG offerings. We expect to have more word on the update timeframe from Motorola in the coming days.

Are you excited to have Android 5.0 running on your Motorola smartphone?
