India's pace spearhead Mohammed Shami set-up India's 178-run win over New Zealand in the second Test at Kolkata's Eden Gardens. But it's revealed that while the 26-year-old was busy with national duties, his daughter was being hospitalised.

According to reports, on the second day of the Test, Aira, the 14-month-old daughter of Shami began to suffer from high fever. Struggling to breathe properly, she was soon admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of a city hospital.

Shami, who took six wickets in the match, got to know about the hospitalization on the second day, after the end of day's play. The right-arm medium-fast bowler shown exemplary mental fortitude and commitment to the team's caused by not only continuing with the match, but also by giving his best .

It's further learnt that he would rushed to hospital everyday after the end of match to see his daughter. Then, he would returned to the team hostel in the night.

"My captain had given me huge inspiration every night after I returned from the hospital. So, I am extremely thankful to him and also thankful to the mates who also gave me belief that my daughter must get cured by the time Test ends," a gracious Shami reportedly said about captain Virat Kohli.

Further reports claimed that his daughter has recovered and returned home on Monday, the day Test ended.

India won the Kolkata Test by 178 runs on the fourth day itself to take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series. The win also helped India displace Pakistan as the number one ranked team in Test.
