
GSLV mk-3 sub-orbital experiment test flight from Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota
CHENNAI: The Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle Mark III (GSLV Mk-III), which aims at carrying four-tonne payloads including future manned missions, has undergone certain modifications to improvise its flight profile including speed and acceleration following experimental flight last year.
ISRO chairman A S Kiran Kumar, speaking on the sidelines of the convocation of Hindustan University on Saturday, said that changes were done to solid rocket S-200 motors to change dynamic pressure and forces. Following the changes, which have been incorporated, ground tests have been conducted on those modified rockets. "When we flew the launch vehicle last time based on the actual test, the solid rocket which was there- S 200 motors- there also certain changes had to be done to change the dynamic pressure and dynamic forces that occur during the atmospheric regime," he said.
ISRO studied the flight validation and atmospheric flight regime during a test on the atmospheric re-entry of a crew module in December last year.
