Autonomous systems are part of a new class of AI-powered systems that go beyond basic automation – instead of performing a specific task repeatedly without any variation, autonomous systems are capable of sensing and dynamically adapting to changing environments to accomplish a desired goal. From robots and industrial machines to chemical processing, logistics and HVAC systems, the possibilities are endless.

Microsoft’s vision for this technology is to make it possible for anyone to scale human expertise in ways that bring together what we, as humans, can uniquely do, with the best of what machines can do to augment human know-how. Most importantly, we want to empower people and organizations to build autonomous systems in a way that is always open and explainable, so that you can understand and trust in how and why your AI makes decisions.
