Micromax Unveils New Logo, Launches Android Smartphones

Micromax at its 'Guts to Change' Gurgaon event on Wednesday unveiled several new devices, including smartphones, the company's first smartwatch, new televisions, and new tablets. A total of 19 products will be launched at the event, with 15 new phones.

The company also unveiled a new logo and branding, as seen below. At the event, Micromax emphasised that it has worked hard to improve software and services a customer derives from its devices.

Other smartphones launched at the event include the Micromax Bolt Supreme, Bolt Supreme 2, Bolt Q381, Canvas Spark 2+, Canvas Evok, Canvas Mega 2, Canvas Unite 4, Canvas 6, and Canvas 6 Pro.

The 4G-enabled Micromax Canvas 6 and
Micromax Canvas 6 Pro (seen below) have been priced at Rs. 13,999, and go up for pre-orders via the company's own site from Wednesday. Both smartphones feature a 5.5-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixel) display with a pixel density of 401ppi. While the Canvas 6 is powered by an unspecified MediaTek octa-core SoC, the Canvas 6 Pro is powered by a 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio MT6795m SoC.

The Canvas 6 also bears the first metal body and fingerprint scanner on a Micromax phone. While the Canvas 6 features 3GB of RAM, the Canvas 6 Pro features 4GB of RAM. Other differences include 32GB of inbuilt storage on the Canvas 6, versus 16GB of storage on the Canvas 6 Pro.

Both smartphones bear a 3000mAh battery and a 13-megapixel rear camera, while the Canvas 6 bears an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and the Canvas 6 Pro a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. Both phones come with Around UI on top of Android, and feature the Gaana app as the default music player app.

The massive scope of the Micromax's launch event on Wednesday is understandable, given recent reports that the company is currently struggling in the Indian market - an image it is certainly trying to change.

The company was last in the news for partnering with TransServ and Visa to introduce the Udio mobile wallet for both new and existing smartphones in its portfolio.
