In a first of its kind computerization project in Maharashtra, the state government is integrating 22 border check points, bringing together the departments of transport, sales tax and excise.

Sadbhav Infrastructure, who bagged the project outsourced the computerization part to HCL Infosystems that would implement the automation, computerisation and integration of the 22 border check posts. It would design, supply, install, commission and subsequently maintain the system for the next 10 years.

The project entails lane automation, including automatic vehicle identification by using RFID, vehicle classification, license plate recognition, violation and incident capturing. HCL would also install and computerize electronic payment and accounting software, consolidate the data from the MIS, and submit the reports to relevant departments.

Rajeev Asija, Chief Operating Officer, Enterprise Business Unit, HCL Infosystems said, “The integrated BCPs shall have the combined facilities for clearance and checking of commercial traffic for all the three departments. The proposed modernization with computerized BCPs will facilitate road users and reduce clearance time thereby increasing efficiency of the departments. We are sure we will create a world class integrated system.”
