NEW DELHI: Shares of Nestle India
gained over 4 per cent in trade
today after hearing on the Maggi
case was set for July 2, 2015.
Sources tell ET Now that Barabanki
court has issued notice to Nestle in
Maggi case and the hearing on the
case is on July 2, 2015.
The UP FDA found lead content in
Maggi to be seven times more than
the permissible level in a routine
test of two dozen noodle packets.
Reports of finding of excessive lead
and monosodium glutamate in Maggi
samples surfaced in mid-May.
However, it has failed to have any
significant impact on the stock
price.
According to the report, UPFDA
officials are 'shocked' to find such
life-threatening high levels of lead in
Maggi. If found guilty, the company
may be penalised with a court-
determined fine and jail term of at
least three years for senior
executives.

RE: Nestle India shares up 4% even as UP govt files case over high lead content in Maggi

NEW DELHI: In the latest development in the Maggi controversy, a Muzaffarpur court in Bihar has filed an FIR against Magggi's brand ambassadors and Nestle officials.Maggi noodle sales have been hit hard ever since it was revealed that a sample tested for quality by a government agency about two weeks back contained monosodium glutamate (MSG) and lead beyond permissible levels. The brand from Swiss foods major Nestle, which is synonymous with noodles in India, has therefore also witnessed a severe dent in its popularity and image. Maggi, which clocks around Rs 1500 crore annually, contributes a significant portion of Nestle's total business in India.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM/NEW DELHI:
Kerala Food and civil supplies
minister Anoop Jacob has ordered
the withdrawal of all existing stock of
Maggi noodles from the Supplyco
outlets following complaints against
the product.
The food safety inspectors in Uttar
Pradesh had filed a case against the
company manufacturing this brand,
after high level of lead was found in
some packets. Several states across
the country started taking action
against the sale of the product.
In light of the issue, the Kerala
government also decided to withdraw
Maggi from all the government
outlets. Additionally, the
government has ordered the
company authorities to take back
their stock of Maggi immediately.
