SHEMAROO ME , UNIVERSAL + and ALT BALAJI is of no use. Even though regional movies there in EROS Now , Lionsgate and JIO Cinema.

That's the case with all bundles, even Airtel has bundled so much South Indian language content from platforms like nammaflix, divo, klikk, manoramaMax in the Xstream app which have no use for Hindi viewers but since the bundle price is low, it is a good deal.

Netflix Basic can be upgraded to Standard or Premium by paying the difference. The amount is 150/month for Standard and 300/month for Premium.

The Netflix standard now costs 300rs and the premium costs 450rs.

.
Whoa!

The price I mentioned was back when Netflix's monthly price was higher than it is now!!

Netflix Plan NameOld PriceNew Price
MobileN/A₹149
Basic₹499₹199
Standard₹649₹499
Premium₹799₹649

It doesn't really make sense for existing Jio upgraded Netflix users like me.

Now that they are the undisputed leader in wired broadband service, I guess Jio is starting to surge prices. Or did they have a deal fallout with Netflix!?

Last year, after I recharged the 300mbps plan for 1 year (plus 1 month free), I paid upfront to Jio (not to Netflix), Rs.3870 for 12 months and 27 days of Netflix Premium.

I am about to recharge Jio Fiber today.

@Jagadeesh, could you please confirm if upgrading from Netflix Basic (the one that we get from Jio Fiber's 1499 plan) to Netflix Premium still costs R.450/month?

If yes, it does not make sense for me to go for Jio Fiber's 1499 plan again, no?

Because now, the cost difference is:

Jio Fiber 1499 Plan + Netflix Basic upgraded to Netflix Premium:

Jio Fiber 1499 plan = 21225.84 (for 13 months)

Jio Fiber Netflix Basic to Premium (for 13 months) = 450 x 13 = 5850

Total for 13 months = 21225.84 + 5850 = Rs.27075.84

Jio Fiber 999 Plan + Netflix Premium purchased directly from Netflix:

Jio Fiber 999 plan = 14145.84 (for 13 months)

Netflix Premium direct purchase (for 13 months) = 649 x 13 = 8437

Total for 13 months = 14145.84 + 8437 = Rs.22582.84

Total Price Difference:

27075.84 - 22582.84 = Rs.4493 (for 13 months)

4493 / 13 = Rs.345.62 (for 1 month)

So, I am going to have to pay Rs.346 extra per month, with the only difference being the Internet speed increasing from 150mbps to 300mbps.

Does that make sense?

What do you think?

Thank You In Advance! 🙂

P. S:
Here is my original calculation when I shifted from the 999 plan to the 1499 plan (Back when Jio Fiber's Netflix Basic to Netflix Premium cost only Rs.300/month and a Netflix Premium direct purchase cost Rs.799/month)
.
I am planning to change my Jio Fiber plan from 999 (currently using 6 months plan) to 1499 (annual plan).

And I am planning to upgrade the resulting Netflix subscription from Basic to Premium.

Apart from the obvious price difference, is there any other con/pro to my decision? What do you think?

My main reasoning behind the decision to use Jio Fiber for Netflix Premium subscription is, that for a mere Rs.91 more per month (than the 999 plan's annual subscription price), the 1499 plan will bump my broadband speed from 150mbps to 300mbps.

Also, there is the factor of 1 free month for Jio Fiber Annual Plans. I am hoping that the Netflix Basic subscription is included for the 13th month too.

Calculation:

999 Annual Plan + Separate Netflix Premium Subscription

Plan Price
999/month

For 12 months (annual plan)
999 x 12 = 11,988

18% GST
11,988 x 0.18 = 2,157.84

Total Price for 12 months (Jio 999)
11,988 + 2,157.84 = 14,145.84

Separate Netflix Premium Subscription
799/month (inclusive of all taxes)

For 12 months
799 x 12 = 9,588

Total Price (Jio 999 + Netflix Premium)
14,145.84 + 9,588 = 23,733.84

1499 Annual Plan + Bundled Netflix Basic Subscription (Upgraded to Premium)

Plan Price
1499/month

For 12 months (annual plan)
1499 x 12 = 17,988

18% GST
17,988 x 0.18 = 3,237.84

Total Price for 12 months (Jio 1499)
17,988 + 3,237.84 = 21,225.84

Bundled Netflix Subscription (Basic to Premium Upgrade Price)
300/month (inclusive of all taxes)

For 12 months
300 x 12 = 3,600

Total Price (Jio 1499 + Netflix Upgraded to Premium)
21,225.84 + 3,600 = 24,825.84

PRICE DIFFERENCE

1499 + Netflix Premium = 24,825.84

999 + Netflix Premium = 23,733.84

Price Difference (For 1 Year)
24,825.84 - 23,733.84 = 1,092

Price Difference (For 1 Month)
1092 ÷ 12 = 91

Yes. Still, it costs 300 for standard and 450 for premium.

Unless you need the speed buff, you can recharge with other plans and subscribe to Netflix separately.

If there is no need for 300mbps, then the 999 plan and Netflix separately is a good choice. As you have calculated, you can save 346rs.

Now the 1499 plan does not provide maximum value which is sad. Like earlier, Jio should provide 500rs credits instead of providing a basic plan.
