* CASE HISTORY: The case was filed by Subramanyam Swami in 1996 and chargesheet filed in 1997. Charges framed against Jayalalitha, her acolyte Sasikala, Sudhakaran and Ilavarasan.
* She spent sometime in jail in this case.
* In 2001, the case was transferred to Bangalore after Jayalalitha returned to power.
* ALLEGATIONS: That Jaya had spent Rs 5 cores on her stepson Sudhakaran's wedding in 1996.
* That she owns 2000 acres of land, 30 kg of gold, 12000 sarees disproportionate to her known sources of income.
* IF CONVICTED: If convicted Jayalalithaa can face up to seven years in jail.
* If convicted, she has to resign from her post as CM.
* IMPACT: A negative verdict will badly impact Jaya-led AIADMK in the next Assembly elections, to be held in 2016.
* Jayalalitha's political future would be jeopardy as if convicted, she can come out of prison only in 2021.
* Tamil Nadu may have new Chief MInister. Jayalalitha has to appoint her diehard supporter as her successor.
* In 2001, Jaya had temporarily handed over charge of chief ministership to O Paneerselvan in Tansi case.
* Former TN chief Secretary Sheela balakrishna likely to be a temporary replacement of Jayalalitha if she is convicted.
* Senior minister O Paneerselvam, who is known for his loyalty to Amma, could also be asked to act as chief minister again.
