TOI has learnt from a top BCCI official that the board, in all likelihood, will continue with the IPL retention policy, providing all eight franchises - including the comeback consortiums of Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) - the 'right to preference' over their respective players.

However, the players would also be given the option to decide whether they want to remain part of the earlier franchise or want to join the auction, tentatively scheduled for February next year.
