Instagram has updated its Stories feature with ability to zoom while recording videos. Also, users can now switch between front and back camera while shooting videos for Stories. The one-finger zoom update is similar to what Snapchat launched back in May. Users can simply drag their finger up from the shutter button to zoom in and down to zoom out. According to an IANS report, Instagram is also giving its users the ability to natively add text, stickers and drawings to photos in the story.
Instagram reportedly has over 400 million active users while Snapchat commands only 150 million active users. Instagram rolled out Stories feature early August. The feature is an exact copy of Snapchat Stories where photos and videos disappear after 24 hours. In case of Instagram, users can share multiple videos and photos on the app, which appear in a slideshow format called ‘Your Story’.

Instagram users can view Stories from the people they follow in a bar on the top of their feed. The social media platform updates user’s profile photos with a colourful ring around them whenever there’s something new.
Snapchat launched Stories in 2013 and the feature has proved to be an immensely popular feature on the platform. In fact, some of these Stories even tend to go viral, and get uploaded on YouTube, and other platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. While the feature has been immensely popular on Snapchat and has been the driving factor, we will have to wait and see how it Instagram uses the similar feature for its own growth.
