Earlier in the evening, BCCI announced the team for upcoming ODI and T20 series against England. While Virat Kohli was named as captain for both the formats, there were some surprising names which were included in the squad. For ex- Yuvraj Singh and Ashish Nehra.
Let’s check out the squad members and their ODI and T20I statistics till date:
ODI Squad:
Virat (C): Virat Kohli will lead the command of team India and it is well-known fact that he is the run machine in every format of the game. Let’s take a look at his ODI record. Kohli has played total 176 ODI’s and scored 7570 runs in 168 innings. He has an average of 52.93 and a strike rate of 90.43. Till now Kohli has smashed 26 tons and 38 fifties in ODI’s.
MSD (wk): Ms Dhoni who has just stepped down as a captain of Indian Cricket team, boasts a good record in ODI. He has played total 283 one day internationals and has scored 9110 runs in 246 innings. MS Dhoni has a strike rate of 88.80 and an average of 50.89. Dhoni has 9 centuries and 61 half-centuries under his name, till now.
Yuvraj Singh: Yuvi is making his comeback in ODI team almost after four years. It will be an interesting event to see if he still has that carefree attitude in him when he comes out to bat once again in the blue jersey. Yuvraj has scored 8329 runs in 268 innings and has 13 centuries and 51 half-centuries under his name.
Shikhar Dhawan: He is a left-handed batsman and comes out to open for India. He has played total 74 ODI’s and scored 3078 runs in 73 innings with an average of 43.97. He got a tremendous strike rate of 90.26 and has scored 9 tons and 17 half centuries till now.
Ajinkya Rahane: He plays the role of top order Batsman and is 28 years of age. In ODI’s, Rahane has scored 2236 in 70 innings and with 2 centuries and 16 half centuries present in his kitty.
KL Rahul: Lokesh Rahul made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in 2016. Till now he has played 3 ODI’s and scored 196 runs. He has also scored one century and one half-century till now.
Manish Pandey: He has played 12 ODI’s till date and scored 261 runs in 9 innings. He also have one century and one half-century in his kitty.
Kedar Jhadav: He is the middle-order right-handed batsman and has featured in 12 ODI’s till date. Jhadav has made 236 runs in 8 innings and also have scored one century.
Ravindra Jadeja: He has established his place as an all-rounder in team India as he has scored 1849 runs in 87 innings and took 147 wickets in 122 innings. He is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler and a left-handed batsman.
Ravichandran Ashwin: Ashwin is India’s spinning spearhead and has played 102 ODI’s till date. He has 142 wickets in his kitty with an economy rate of 4.85.
Amit Mishra: He is leg break specialist and has picked up 64 wickets in 34 innings. He also has a decent economy rate of 4.72 in ODI’s.
Hardik Pandya: He is in team India as a Right-arm medium fast bowler. He has picked up 4 wickets in 4 ODI’s and has an economy rate of 5.42.
Jasprit Bumrah: He is known as Yorker specialist of India and has picked up 17 wickets in 8 matches with a good economy rate of 3.63.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: He is the right-arm medium bowler who has bagged 60 wickets in 57 innings with an economy rate of 4.79.
Umesh Yadav: Playing the role of the right-arm medium fast bowler, Yadav has picked up 87 wickets in 6i innings with an economy rate of 5.97.
T20 Squad:
Virat Kohli: Kohli will lead the side in T20I’s also and even in the shortest format of the game, he doesn’t fail to impress. Kohli has scored 1657 runs in 41 innings and his T20 highest score till now is 90 runs.
MSD: It’s a well-known fact that we won our first T20 world cup under MS Dhoni’s captaincy and he is even known for scoring quick runs. MSD has played 73 T20I’s till date and has scored 1112 runs in 63 innings with a strike rate of 88.80.
Yuvraj Singh: Yuvi is still remembered for hitting 6 sixes in an over of Stuart Broad. On his day he can single handily destroy the opposition but firing quick runs and at that time he only deals in fours and sixes. Yuvraj has played 55 T20I’s and scored 1134 runs with his highest being 77.
Suresh Raina: Raina is the vital player for India when it comes to T20 as he can provide some good partnerships in the middle order and also some stability. He has scored 1203 runs in 52 innings and has also scored one century and three half-centuries.
Rishabh Pant: The 19 years old boy is all set to make his debut for team India after impressing in first-class cricket. Recently, Pant made the record of hitting fastest century in Ranji as he scored a ton in just 48 balls. Hopes will be high from him when he comes out to bat in Indian Jersey.
Manish Pandey: He is the right-handed batsman who has just scored 67 runs so far in 4 innings of T20I’s and he will be looking to capitalise on the opportunity of being named as the part of the IndianT20 Squad against England.
Hardik Pandya: In T20 Pandya can prove to be good with both bat and ball. He can provide depth in lower middle order and hit some quick runs. Pandya has played 16 T20I’s till now in which he has bagged 15 wickets.
Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja has proved himself to be a match-turning bowler many a time by bagging wickets out of nowhere. He has played 39 T20I’s till now and clinched 31 wickets in the shortest format of the game.
R Ashwin: Ashwin is one of those rare players who has proven his worth in all formats of the game. He has played 45 T20I’s till date, in which he has bagged 52 wickets with an economy rate of 6.91.
Yuzvendra Chahal: He made his T20I debut against Zimbabwe in 2016 and till now he has played total 3 T20’s in which he took 3 wickets.
Ashish Nehra: Nehra will lead the bowling command of the team as he is the most experienced bowler in the squad. He has played 23 T20I’s and has bagged 31 wickets till now. He is 37 years of age but he still have the pace of a young bowler and he has proved time and again that age is just a number for him.
Jasprit Bumrah: Jasprit Jasbirsingh Bumrah is one lethal player when it comes to T20. He can stop the run rate and keep the Batsman on back-foot by bowling Yorkers. He has played a very crucial part in death overs for team India. Bumrah has featured in 21 T20I’s till now and has bagged 28 wickets with an economy rate of 6.62.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar: His biggest weapon is his line and length. He can stick to one line in entire game and create difficulties for Batsmen by varying pace. He has played 16 T20I’s till date and picked up 16 wickets in them.
