India displace South Africa to take the
top spot in ICC Test rankings after the
latter lost the third Test against
England in Johannesburg on Saturday
(January 16), giving Alastair Cook & Co.
an unassailable 2-0 lead in the four-
Test series.
India, with 110 points, have gained a
slender 1-point lead over Australia
with AB de Villiers's men sliding down
to third spot. They will remain third
even if they manage to beat England
in the fourth and final Test at the
Centurion.
South Africa have endured a
prolonged rough patch in Tests and
are yet to record a win since January
2015 (nine Tests - four draws, five
losses). India followed up their historic
series win in Sri Lanka in late 2015
with a thumping 3-0 series win over
South Africa at home which propelled
them to the second spot and
Saturday's development takes them to
No. 1 position for the first time in five
