Steven Finn ruled out of World T20

In a big blow to England's chances at the upcoming World Twenty20 in India, Steven Finn, their right-arm pacer, has been ruled out with a calf strain. Liam Plunkett has been called up as his replacement. The 30-year-old bowler from Yorkshire will team up with the likes of Chris Jordan, Reece Topley, David Willey and Ben Stokes.

"Really disappointed to have picked up another injury on my road to recovery. Gutted doesn't describe it. Good luck to the guys out there," Finn tweeted on Friday (February 26).

Finn has endured a string of injuries in the recent past, and the latest one sees him missing an opportunity to feature in the showpiece event and help his side push for their second title. The 26-year-old pacer suffered a stress injury to his left foot and missed his side's tour of UAE where England conceded the three-Tests affair 2-0 but won the limited-overs series (3-1 in ODIs and 3-0 in T20Is).

Finn bowled his first ball in Test cricket since July 2013 in the third Ashes Test in Birmingham in July 2015. Replacing the injured Mark Wood, Finn made most of his opportunity, recording his career-best innings figures of 6-79 to take his team to a win. Finn started strongly in the home series against South Africa in December 2015 but hobbled off with a side strain in the third Test in Johannesburg.

As for Plunkett, Finn's injury comes as a blessing in disguise. Playing in a T20I for the first time since his one-off appearance in 2006, Plunkett picked up three wickets in two successive games against Pakistan in Dubai in 2015 and was unfortunate to have missed the cut in the initial list of the 15-man squad.
