I don't understand why did they kept matches in the south when it's already known that monsoons are there down South during this time. They could have kept the opener as IND VS AUS in Ahmedabad. Could have movied to Chennai after 20th October.

The problem is rain starts here at end of Sept or start of October. It's touch and go now. It rains more here in Oct/Nov/Dec. So as you said Ind vs Aus as a opener at Ahmedabad would have been a spectacular start to the tournament.
