India's loss is likely to aggravate the downfall of ODI cricket.
Not happening if Rohit, Rahul and Kohli just plays test cricket for next two years. Give up on white ball cricket. Rahul and Iyer were unbelievably good after their injury, but we need fresh approach towards 2027. As I said, we have good enough players to take it on. Just invest in them with Pant/Samson/Pandya as a captain and Sunder or Rinkoo Singh as finisher. We need to move away from Kuldeep Yadav as well. We need to invest in Ravi Bishnoi and find out few fast bowlers who can consistently bowl at 135+ in short spells.

I was not referring to India alone, but overall, towards ODI as a format in international cricket; the interest of cricket boards, players and spectators towards this format, as well as of broadcasters and advertisers/sponsors.

One of the consistent downfalls had been because of dependence on certain players here the case was Rohit and Virat playing consistently well and hiding the inadequacies of other players. If we had been 20-3 in at least 2-3 matches we would have certainly found out the consistency of pressure on Rahul, Jadeja and Iyer and the same with bowling on Mohd Shami . The other reason being the deteriorating standards of teams other than Australia . England, New Zealand to some extent South Africa which had been lot like India found wanting in Knock out matches . I guess in times to come the teams had to perform not depending on certain players and this can be done with rotation of players with key players sitting out and the lesser ones taking the mantle in knock out matches.

Rotation has hardly happened, thats why we failed. Last decade or so, we are highly dependent on Rohit+Kohli+Dhawan. Rahul is so talented that he could have broken a lot of records, but due to this top three he didn't get chance in ODI cricket as well as test cricket as we gone back to Gambhir but not players like Rahul, Panchal, Easwaran(Similar things happened when we went back to Parthiv, Dinesh Kartik and many others). We need consistent selection to give freedom to players and sometimes rest against small teams like Bangladesh, Windies, Zimbabwe and West Indians. There was no need for Rohit and Kohli to play useless West Indies series. We could have given chance to New players like Ruturaj and Easwaran but it was not meant to be. Even Samson, Dhull, Aparajith for that matter, but it was not meant to be.

Australia is making players ready for international cricket parallelly. Henry Hunt, Teague Wyllie, Puckovski, Doran, is ready to play test cricket. Once Warner and Khwaja retired in couple of years, they will get their chances. Daniel Drew and Matthew Short, Jason Sangha will get chances in ODI cricket. Lyon is on the verge of end of his career. They made Murphy ready. Zampa has back up in Tanveer Sangha. Green has back up in Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Hardie and Lance Morris. Starc has got replacement in the form of Spencer Johnson who played in South Africa series. Watson had backup in the form of Faulkner from 2011-2015. Who we have to replace Pandya? Noone really.

Jhye Richardson and Scott Boland got chance after long time in 2021 Ashes and post series I believe(I believe Scott Boland and Joel Paris got chance in ODI series against Africa back in 2016).
Travis Head scored two centuries against England in that series I believe(Similar things happened in 2019 ashes. Matthew Wade as a pure batsman scored two centuries at number 6, we are going to Gill who hasn't played in England or against England a single time for WTC Final, how ridiculous that was. Managing your own players I crucial thing, we have lot of talent in our country, we just need to utilise that). Those centuries were crucial. But Australian invested in Travis Head since 2016 BBL(I don't know exact year but Brad Hodge was playing that year). He played one of the blinders in BBL and Shane Warne recommended his name. Australia started investing in him. I believed he played crucial knocks against Pakistan along with Usman Khawaja in 2018. That year, Australia dropped Shaun Marsh and gave chance to Head at top of the order with Warner against South Africa I believe. But as Finch was there, Travis Head didn't get chance. He was invested in test matches and that helped them to win this ODI WC. No matter what other players did, this knock was crucial. He got beaten twice or thrice against Shami and Bumrah, but other than that it was chanceless innings. Have we done that(expect for Kohli and Rohit in MS era and Rahul and Iyer post 2019 WC? The answer is no. Umran Malik got chances in 2022, but did he get chance in 2023? No. Arshadeep never got chance in ODIs. It was one kind of bowling attack for us. Sunder played unbelievably good in that Gabba test and then against England at home as well. How many chances he got after that? None. Samson none. We gone back to Rahane and Rayudu after Pandey failed. But dropped Rayudu at the last moment for DK and Pant, it was not needed. We need good selection coordination between NCA and Head coach.

I don't know but the performance's can be linked to pay and selection ( I had detailed this in one of my earlier posts) although it will be too complex it is doable quantitatively eliminating the selectors role and players automatically selecting themselves without bias and all the eleven players taking the responsibilities to perform and get the best chance to perform and win. Being a team game it looks somewhat unbelievable or so but can at least give this a try.

This thing won't help and put lot of pressure on players and players like Rahul and Iyer won't perform.

It's transition time, we need to see the age of the players and we need to let them go. I don't think anyone beyond Kohli can play 2027 WC. But harsh decisions needs to be taken immediately in next two months. Jay Shah and Roger Binny needs to sit with these four players(Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja, Shami, Ashwin) and make them understand what's better for Indian cricket. Because we play only 40-50 ODI matches between two WC. We need to invest now in new players so that they get ready. Same goes with most of the other teams. You won't see most of the Australian team playing another four years. All of these will concentrate on home ashes rather than white ball cricket and will retire(Smith, Starc and Hazelwood and Lyon). You will see new players in ODI team immediately. Just see what England has done.
