How is the Jio fiber FTTH service right now like in terms of downtime and pings. I'm planning for a shift into this ISP or should I go with local providers?

Solution
Thank you everyone for your kind inputs. Points noted. Apparently the sales guy is asking for 2500 rupees installation charges even on the 6 months prepaid subscription prompting me to think otherwise. I will ask around Local ISPs now, choice being Meghbela, Alliance and Hathway
JioFiber prepaid plans for new acquisition have been stopped. So he is signing you up for postpaid plan, I guess.

In JioFiber prepaid, they charge Rs.1000 (for installation - non-refundable) + Rs.500 (for device security - refundable on disconnection) for internet-only connection. The total connection amount becomes Rs.2500 for ONT + STB prepaid connection.

If he is asking you to pay for 6...

I am currently with JioFiber. Zero downtimes, touchwood. Pings are not great but better than what my local ISP provides.

Airtel Fiber (wired optical fiber) will also be available at my location within a month or so.

Thank you for quick response! I've been hearing many sweet mouths and myself advocates for JIO fiber ftth but was reluctant to use it. Can you kindly tell which plan are you on? Also should I opt for higher plans or stick to lower amounting plans for testing.

I am on the 300 Mbps plan (Rs. 1499+GST).

I have also shared my connection speed test result on the forum. You can check them here and here.

It's up to you. You can get feedback from your area's existing JioFiber users. Generally, JioFiber speeds and uptime are always good throughout India because Jio themselves manage the services.

Stick to higher plans 200Mbps or 300Mbps. Same goes with Airtel FTTH.

You have to ask around, check online reviews on your local ISPs to make a decision. Local ISPs can often be real good, but they may have issues too.

Issues like not being able to handle the bandwidth so you may get less speed than your chosen plan, downtimes, poor support in case of issues etc.

JioFiber is pretty good for day-to-day usage. However, browsing speed feels slow compared to local ISPs. I don't know why, maybe because of their DPI thing. Sometimes, in my experience, some websites also struggle to open. Also, poor ping. On average, my ping to Mumbai server is 39-40ms on Jio (sometimes less too) but local ISP gives 23-24ms. Luckily, I don't game nowadays, so this is not a problem.

Best thing for me about JioFiber is great uptime and no download speed issues.

I have heard great about JioFiber's uptime everywhere, but the rest experiences vary from place to place.

If he is asking you to pay for 6 months subscription upfront, it's most likely advance rental or postpaid plan.

So basically 1500 will be going down the drain coz a customer is not taking an internet connection as a test ride that he/she will surrender it and ask for refund even so in the farthest future and I've read in the forums how refunds are processed also charging separate 1k for STB it seems? but they advertise stb is free. My goodness.

They advertise it as free because they are only offering Postpaid connection and there is no installation and STB charges for postpaid connection.

I guess prepaid is still available in a few places. You can take Postpaid connection if you don't mind that and avoid these charges.
