Its mainly because Hotstar touches all fields that an online platform could bring. Sports,movies,foreign contents, live tv with popular news channels,serials,web series etc. Obviously the major crowdpuller is IPL. Many women regularly use hotstar to watch their serials now a days(regions where Star is dominant) and like others Star channels is not available outside hotstar(except tatasky). Simultaneously Hotstar is able to compete with Amazon-netflix and Voot-Sonyliv-zee5-sunnxt. But I can't believe that it overtaken YouTube.

More good news Disney+ shows, movies to be streamed by Hotstar in India
Hotstar plans to localize Disney+ movies and shows by dubbing or by adding subtitles in several Indian languages

Still on 720p in case of live streams
Majority of hotstar consumption is on mobile so on 5 inch mobile screen it hardly matters also considering the state of our 4G network
But
I think hotstar will be behave like hulu
Disney+ Will be separate service
As they are mentioned it’s is for family
Rest of content will be under hulu( hotstar)
No body knows hulu here but all knows star here

They can go for 1080p in case of TV apps atleast. Gaming actually needs a good streaming quality and resolution to be enjoyed on TV
