The Prime Minister's Office uses a comparatively speedy internet connection. While an average internet connection speed in India is 2Mbps (megabytes per second), that of the PMO is 34Mbps, an RTI application has revealed.

In a reply to the RTI application filed by Vinoth Ranganathan, co-founder of onlinerti.com, the PMO has said the National Informatics Centre (NIC) is providing an average of 34Mbps speed to the PMO office.

"There is nothing wrong for our PM to have 34Mbps speed internet. As the Prime Minister, he should have a better connectivity. Google fibre in the US provides 1 Gbps (Gigabytes per second) connectivity to ordinary citizens," said Ranganathan.

"In India, the Startup Village in Kochi has 1Gbps connectivity which is almost 30 times the speed of our PMO," he said.

The recent "State of the Internet" quarterly report by internet content delivery network Akamai has shown that India ranks 115 in the world. South Korea has the maximum internet speed with 24.6Mbps.

The average peak connection speed in India is 14Mbps and only 1.2% internet users in India enjoy the internet speeds of more than 10Mbps, the report adds.

In August, the Centre approved the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's ambitious Digital India project at Rs 1 lakh crore to ensure high-speed internet access to all villages and is expected to be completed by 2019.

The RTI reply from PMO also said: "Client computer works on Windows 7/Windows 8 and server works both on Windows and Linux."

"The computers at the PMO continue to work on Windows 7/ Windows 8 even after the Edward Snowden episode. But countries like China has banned Windows 8 operating systems from government computers because of security concerns," said Ranganathan.

Responding to another RTI query on the new computer added after Narendra Modi sworn in as the Prime Minister, the PMO said the "sought information is not available".

The PMO has also refused to divulge the number of computers at the PMO which have been hacked in the last five years.

The RTI application has also found that no amount is being spent to maintain the PMO's official Twitter handle, PMO @PMOIndia. The official Twitter handle has more than three million followers and over 1,700 tweets.

Good share bro but an average internet connection speed in India is 10KBPS to 30KBPS for 2G Network or for common man , Yes a 3G user may get some time 2Mbps (megabytes per second),other wise he also struggle with 40KBPS to 256KBPS for 3G in some ISP & it happen with me for Vodafone.

So it be good if Prime Minister also take care of ISP'S what they said about speed but never give that speed to users.
