Google has introduced some optional features for Gmail, which makes it easier for users to control information from apps. The notification to accept (or decline) the new features has started popping up for Gmail users.

“We’ve introduced some optional features for your account, giving you more control over the data Google collects and how it’s used, while allowing Google to show you more relevant ads,” the notification says.

Google services like Search and YouTube are linked with a user’s Google account and thus a search on these services ends up generating data on what they have searched for, what they’ve watched, etc. under the Web & App Settings tab, users can check what sort of data has gotten collected and take control of it. Google will, in turn, use this information to make ads across the web more relevant for users.

Currently, the Ads Personalisation setting in My Account allows Google to use data in a user’s accounts to tailor ads that appear for them.

“With this change, this setting will also allow Google to use data in your account to tailor ads on websites and apps that partner with Google,” the notification says.

After users choose to accept the these settings, they will apply across all of their signed-in devices and across all Google services. These can be changed from My Account.
