Google is working on a feature that will allow Chrome users to view any part of the web in virtual reality using Cardboard or Daydream-ready viewers. Google has introduced two new settings in its latest beta and developer versions of Chrome for Android that will bring immersive experience to the entire web.

Google employee, François Beaufort, shared details about the new features on Google +. “The Chromium team is working on several features to bring the web to VR,” he said. Beaufort says the Google team has added an experimental flag at Chrome that will allow users to browse the web in VR mode, while using Cardboard or Daydream-ready viewers.

Also, Google is making it easy for web developers to embed VR content in their web pages by introducing WebVR support for Chrome and VR view.

“We’re introducing VR view – a quick and easy way to embed immersive content on Android, iOS and the web,” Nathan Martz , Product Manager, Google said in a blogpost.

Google is looking at the whole VR ecosystem; from smartphones which have the right specs and are ‘DayDream’ ready, to VR headsets to apps.

Google is open-sourcing the HTML and JavaScript for web developers to modify content.

Making the entire web content immersive essentially on Android will mean users can then view almost all content while they have the VR headset on, and not worry about which one supports VR view and which one doesn’t.

Google announced DayDream platform for high-quality, immersive mobile VR experience on Android smartphones at its I/O conference in May. It is looking at the whole VR ecosystem; from smartphones which have the right specs and are ‘DayDream’ ready, to VR headsets to apps.
