Google Duo now supports eight-person video calls

With the ICC Cricket World Cup kicking off Friday, people using Google's video calling app were "toasted" with coffee by Virat Kohli. The promotional message said, "Thank you for your wishes. Keep cheering for Team India on Duo."

Non-cricket-following Duo users began chirping confusedly on Twitter and Reddit, some not exactly pleased to get a message at odd hours, due to the time difference

Google's statement:

Did you receive an unexpected video message?

This evening a video message was accidentally sent by Google to some Duo users. This was not an ad -- it was a message that users in India were intended to receive as a thank you if they chose to participate in an upcoming Duo promotion.
We are sorry for any confusion this may have caused.

Google Duo gains call reminders and support for calling Home devices

When you tap a contact to call them, a new option appears above the usual call and messaging buttons.

Second new feature is the ability to call Google Home devices with the tap of a button. This has been possible previously, but you had to ask Google Assistant to make that call for you. Now, the option to call your Homes or Nests sits right within the contact list for some users.
