Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out of the Indian Premier League with a side strain injury. The Kings XI Punjab allrounder suffered the injury during his team's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday (May 15) and has decided to return home to recuperate ahead of the tri-series in the West Indies.

Australia's Support Team Physiotherapist, David Beakley said: "Glenn reported increasing soreness in his left abdomen area following last night's (Sunday's) match and as such a decision was made for him to return home for further assessment and treatment ahead of the West Indies tour.

"From the information we have so far, the injury doesnt appear to be something that will prevent Glenn from participating in this tour, but we are keen to give him the necessary time to recover before departing to the West Indies at the end of this month."

A further update on Maxwell's injury will be provided once he has been assessed prior to departure for the tour of the West Indies.

Kings XI Punjab are already out of the reckoning for a finish in top-four having won only four of their 12 matches thus far.
