Morgan and Co. fined for slow over-rate

England were fined for slow over-rate during the second One-Day International (ODI) in Cuttack, the International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed on Friday (January 20). Eoin Morgan, the England skipper, was fined 20 percent of his match fees while the players received a ten percent fine.

Having opted to bowl first, England were one over short after the first innings that saw India amass 381 for 6 with Yuvraj Singh (150) and Mahendra Singh Dhoni (134) scoring centuries and sharing a 256-run stand. England lost the match by 15 runs, despite Morgan's heroics.

"In accordance with Article 2.5.1 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minor over-rate offences, players are fined 10 per cent of their match fees for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time, with the captain fined double that amount," the ICC statement read. "As such, Morgan has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee, while his players have received 10 per cent fines. Morgan pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing."

Both teams will now travel to Kolkata for the third and final ODI before the three-match Twenty20 International series that will be played in Kanpur, Nagpur and Bengaluru, begins.
