We can still win the series: Steven Finn
“We feel we can still win the last three matches and the series.” In the background of two huge losses, this optimism from England's lanky speedster Steven Finn may appear a little misplaced.
But it is quite clear that the visiting team thinks the “green-looking” pitch on Thursday offers the side the best chance to win in this five-match series.
“We have a very good side. We will leave nothing in the dressing room and give it all in the next three matches.
In fact, playing against the world champions, we have nothing to lose really,” said Finn on the eve of the crucial third match.
Challenging
“It is challenging to play in these conditions, which are, of course, same for both teams. The ball does not carry or move around as much as it does back home.
“But the basic principles of bowling remain the same on every pitch. Speed is not what occupies my mind; it is where I land the ball,” said the 22-year who has bowled at a maximum speed of 94 miles an hour.
Waiting for an impact-making performance against India, the six-feet-seven-inch bowler said, “This Indian team is more or less the same we played in England. It is just that they have more experience of playing in these conditions.
“Yes. We have been outplayed. But then, it is all in the past. We have to move on and start winning.” He admitted being “very encouraged” by the sight of a ‘green' pitch at the PCA Stadium here and hoped to give it all, “if included” in the playing XI on Thursday.
Earlier, Vinay Kumar hoped that the conditions here help the Indian medium pacers. Beaming with confidence after taking a career-best four-wicket haul in New Delhi on Tuesday, Vinay Kumar said the use of one ball at each end was “in favour of bowlers like Praveen (Kumar) and me, who are more of swing and seam bowlers.”
Refusing to look too far ahead, Vinay said, “the team is taking one match at a time and everyone is keen to perform.”
