Because DD sports doesn't has Terrestrial feed and prasar bharati act mandate that sports of National importance needs to be broadcast in terrestrial mode also along with cable and satellite.

2, 3 years ago DD NATIONAL got busy to show Cricket, I don't know what hockey tournament was but it shows live on DD NEWS and I am quite sure this time they will repeat that once again.
