PUNE: Coal India Limited (CIL), the
coal mining monolith had unveiled
its road map, of strategies to be
adopted, to attain the one Billion
Tonne (BT) coal production mark by
2019-20.
A statement issued by ministry of
coal states that with the projected
coal demand of the country hovering
around 1,200 Million Tonnes (MTs)
by 2019-20, at an envisaged growth
rate of 7 per cent, CIL is expected to
chip in one BT, of which 908 MTs is
the expected contribution from the
indentified projects.

DEHRADUN: The visually-dramatic
Nelong valley in Uttarkashi district,
which had been out of bounds for
civilians since the 1962 Indo-China
war because of its proximity to the
China border, is now open for
tourists.
The valley, situated in the
picturesque Gangotri National Park
(GNP) at an altitude of almost
11,000-ft, has a mountain desert
landscape much like Lahaul-Spiti,
with sparse treeline and a rich
wildlife comprising rare animals like
snow leopard, Himalayan blue sheep
and musk deer. The first batch of
tourists visited the valley on
Saturday, covering the 25-km
distance from Bhaironghati to the
valley in gypsies provided by the
forest department.

NEW DELHI: Delhi traffic police
constable Satish Chand, accused of
hitting one woman with a brick, was
on Saturday granted bail by a trial
court.
While granting bail to Chand, the
court observed that till now there
was no direct evidence against him
to prove that he had demanded
bribe from the woman.
Chand was granted bail on
furnishing a bail bond of Rs 10,000.

AGARTALA: The Congress party has
opposed the move by the Centre to
withdraw the special category status
of the northeast states, alleging that
such a move may hamper the
region's development.
"In the 14th Finance Commission,
there is a recommendation that the
'special category' status given to the
North East states will be removed. At
present, special category states get
90 percent grant from the
Government of India for their
budget. Ten percent is the state
government's contribution,"
Congress leader V. Narayanasamy
said.
