NEW DELHI: India on Thursday
pitched for a rating upgrade by
global agency Fitch saying that the
country's growth prospects have
improved on account of recent
reform measures as well as lower oil
prices, and its fiscal consolidation
programme is on track.
In their meeting with Fitch
representatives, senior finance
ministry officials highlighted various
initiatives announced in the budget
2015-16 which are expected to boost
investment and growth.
The officials highlighted the
government's commitment to stick to
targets set for the fiscal as well as
the current account deficits.

MUMBAI: Maharashtra last year
achieved the dubious distinction of
recording the most number of cases
of rape and assault on women
among all Indian states.
Union minister of women and child
development Maneka Gandhi told
the Lok Sabha that the number of
cases registered for rape and assault
on women with intent to outrage
modesty has shown an increasing
trend. The highest number of such
cases were in Maharashtra (13,827),
followed by Madhya Pradesh (13,323)
and Andhra Pradesh (13,267) for
2014.

NEW DELHI: The government may
more than double the threshold at
which Cabinet approval becomes
necessary for foreign investment,
making it much less cumbersome to
attract big-ticket foreign investments
in infrastructure and manufacturing
sectors. The department of industrial
policy and promotion (DIPP) has
floated a draft cabinet note on the
proposal to raise the threshold toRs
3,000 crore from the current limit of
Rs 1,200 crore.
