NEW DELHI: Railway minister Suresh
Prabhu on Thursday presented his
first Rail Budget.
Here are the highlights of the Rail
Budget 2015 :
*No increase in railway passenger
fares.
*17000 more toilets to be replaced
by bio-toilets: Suresh Prabhu
*An All India 24-7 helpline number
will become operational: Suresh
Prabhu
*A mobile application to address
complaints of people is also being
developed:
*Operation 5 minutes to ensure that
a passenger travelling unreserved
can purchase a ticket within 5
minutes
*The facility of e-ticketing will help
us to go paper less
*SMS alert services for passengers to
inform them about arrival and
departure of trains
*Modern facilities for disabled
citizens, senior citizens, patients
through IRCTC
*24 to 26 coaches in certain
identified trains, more general class
coaches, ladders to be replaced
*In 400 stations wi-fi facility will be
provided
* Rs 8.5 lakh crore will be invested
in Railways in next 5 years
* Cleanliness in Railways highest
priority under Swachh Rail Swachh

* Plans to building partnerships to
gain long term financing and
improve connectivity, modernise
infrastructure
* Introduction of integrated
ticketing will be done, a Defence

* Collaboration with NIFT and NID
for better bed rolls, inner coach
designs
* Rs 120 crore provided for lifts and
escalators to facilitate movement of
passengers and goods
* To expand water vending machines
to most railway stations to ensure
availability of clean drinking water at
very low cost to people
* Middle bay of coaches will be
reserved for women and senior
citizens for reasons of safety
* TTEs would be instructed to help
senior citizens, pregnant women and
differently-abled people in obtaining
lower berths
* Toilets at stations need
improvement; 650 additional toilets
to be created in addition to 120 last
year
* New department to keep stations
clean
