NEW DELHI: Taking cue from global
price trends, the government on
Monday reduced the import tariff
value of gold to $385 per 10 grams.
The import tariff on silver has also
been cut to $544 per kg.
During last fortnight, the tariff value
on imported gold was $398 per 10
grams and on silver at $567 per kg.
The import tariff value is the base
price at which customs duty is
determined to prevent under-
invoicing. It is revised on a
fortnightly basis taking into account
global prices.
The decrease in tariff value on
imported gold has been notified by
the Central Board of Excise and
Customs, according to an official
statement.
Gold in London, which normally sets
price trend on the domestic front,
today was trading at $1,185.70 per
ounce in the opening session, 0.36
per cent down from the previous
close.

Like past two years, this year too US
Citizenship and Immigration
Services, the federal agency that
processes H-1B applications, reached
the cap for H-1B work visas for 2016
within the first five days. The huge
number of applications show the
massive demand for these visas. But
it's increasingly getting tougher to
get a work visa each year. For, these
visas are often blamed for rising
unemployment in the US. Past many
years have also seen bills being
introduced in the US that attempt to
penalise -- in some way or the other
-- the companies using these visas.
There has also been a rise in the
rejection rate of H-1B visa
applications filed by companies.
Below is the list of companies that
have been debarred/disqualified
from applying for H-1B visa.
