3G speed varies from as low as 1.5 Mbps to as High as 6 Mbps. If u want to use torrent/watch movie then Go for unlimited plan or u will loose your 8-10 Gb(4 Mbps) limit in 10-15 days and then u will be forced to surf at 512 Kbps
which is very slowwww

So better choose a lower speed(like 2 or 3 Mbps) and higher per month limit like 30 - 40 Gb.

Sometimes local operators can give you better deal than these larger companies like Airtel,Vodafone or Bsnl.

State-run BSNL will set up 40,000 wi-fi hotspots across the country, entailing an investment of about Rs 6,000 crore.

The tender for the project is likely to be floated by July and it will be completed by 2018.

“BSNL will set up 40,000 wi-fi hot spots across the country and the project is likely to be completed by 2018,” Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said while launching wi-fi facility at Taj Mahal.

The minister added that estimated investment by BSNL for this would be around Rs 6,000 crore.
The company also inaugurated wi-fi facility at Taj Mahal as part of the government’s plan to put such services at major tourist places.
This year BSNL will set up another 2,500 wi-fi hot spots at 250 locations at the cost of Rs 500 crore. BSNL CMD Anupam Srivastava said that of these 200 hot spots have already been set up.

BSNL will be providing free wi-fi services for 30 minutes per 24 hrs (three times in a month) which visitors can utilise in multiple sessions.

After free usage limit of 30 minutes is exhausted, one can continue using the service on paid basis for which subscription plans are available in the denomination of Rs 20, Rs 30, Rs 50 and Rs 70 for validity of 30 min, 60 min, 120 min and one day, respectively.
BSNL has also plans to expand the coverage of the wi-fi facility to other tourist and religious locations such as Khajuraho and Jagannath, amomg others by March.

Prasad added that BSNL has plans to invest more than Rs 1,200 crores in UP (West) circle during 2015-16.
Out of this, about Rs 200 crores will be invested in upgrading and expanding mobile network.

BSNL to invest Rs 6,000 crore to set up 40,000 Wi-fi hotspots all over India by 2018 Tech2 Mobile

NEW DELHI: State-run telecom service provider Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) will invest Rs 6,000 crore over the next three years to set up some 40,000 Wi-Fi hotspots across the country, its chairman-cum-managing director Anupam Shrivastava has said.

"We are now thinking of rolling out Wi-Fi hotspot through capital expenditure model also. We are in the process of having our tender ready. We will be floating our tender and put our own equipment. We will be doing everything," Shrivastava told IANS in an interview.

"We have a targeted to have 40,000 wi-fi hotspots in course of next three years. We will be investing Rs 6,000 crore for that," he said, adding: "For our initiative with the private sector, we have set a target of 250 locations in 2015-16 with 2,500 hotspots."

A Wi-Fi hotspot offers clients access to the internet over a wireless local area network.

The company has already rolled out Wi-Fi hotspots in 70-75 locations in the country. But these have not been fully deployed by BSNL. The state-run firm has roped in private players for the majority of the work.

"When we did an analysis of BSNL, we found that we neither have 4G licence nor the money to buy spectrum. Yet we knew that 4G will be the in-thing for the future generation. We also realised that our biggest strength is the landline structure that we have," Shrivastava said.

"But we have optical fibre network almost to the tune of 700,000 kilometres countrywide. The natural thing that comes to us is to utilise these resources. Then we found wi-fi is the new technology that is coming and taking on 4G area," he added.

"So Wi-Fi became our obvious choice."

The chairman explained that earlier the company was not investing on Wi-Fi roll-out and opting, instead, for a revenue sharing model with private players.

"We floated expression of interest through which we asked private parties to install the Wi-Fi hotspots, maintain it for five years and manage the sales and marketing functions as well. We at BSNL provide the back-haul connectivity through optic fibre -- at 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps," he said.

The ballpark investment to construct five Wi-Fi hotspots in one place is around Rs 10 lakh.

Shrivastava also expressed optimism that capital employed on Wi-Fi operations will be realized soon. "But for that, we have to reach certain threshold. The moment we complete this year's target of 250 locations, the revenue stream will start ploughing the investments back."

Talking about BSNL's inherent strengths, notably as a landline service, Shrivastava said in the next two-three years even rural exchanges will become next generation network NGN) exchanges.

Just read this before expecting anything

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the entire Puri town was buzzing with over a million and a half devotees thronging the holy place for the Nabakalebara Rath Yatra, the mobile Internet service providers went into a hiding of sorts.

Despite the much-vaunted unveiling of wi-fi Internet connectivity in Puri, all the claims of free Internet service turned into a damp squib. Even paid service was not working during the peak hours leaving users frustrated.

State-owned BSNL’s 30-minute free wi-fi service was particularly disappointing as the Internet service was virtually non-operational on the Grand Road where it was supposed to be available. Though an official of the telecom giant claimed that heavy demand on the service jammed the systems, it was a lame excuse since BSNL was supposed to know that the religious event would be thronged by lakhs of pilgrims from across the country and even abroad.

Interestingly, BSNL’s 3G service was so poor that it was not operational across most parts of the holy town
