India is considering allowing foreign vendors to bid for a part of the $2 billion worth of telecom gear contract for upgrading Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) network to 5G, people familiar with the matter said.
heh knew this would happen! Swadeshi se bas delays hota hn. Finally GoI is thinking in the right direction.

I think BSNL has started 5G service in some cities. One of my friends from Kanpur has tried it..but the speed is low. Maybe because of the trial period.

BSNL to start 5G from June 2025
This thread was started in 2018 with news link saying, "BSNL to start 5G trials in March2018" and we are here after 7 years - March 2025 and still all we are getting is tareek pe tareek, tareek pe tareek, tareek pe tareek.

Yes, BSNL 4G is available in town limits in Sivakasi. But NOT in main industrial areas, outside the city. VoLTE is still hit or miss. Coverage is pretty bad for 700MHz / Band 28 and do not ask about Band 1 coverage, Unicorn is less rare than that. I think BSNL needs to use FM Radio frequency like 98.2MHz to give full indoor 4G coverage.

Why are they NOT using Band 41 is beyond me? It is just a sw update right? When I went to BSNL exchange to give complaint reg 4G coverage issues, they recommended me to use "3G/2G Auto" mode. Indoor Coverage of 3G is also pretty bad here. So I once again started using "2G Only" mode now, with "5G Ready" SIM of BSNL.

Band 41 has started getting deployed in Haryana and Maharashtra(Speeds are not like Vi though). Rest be assured it will reach everywhere in country. Don't know when, but it will certainly reach. Band 78 trails are going on in Purvanchal, Kanpur and Varanasi. Speeds are 300-500Mbps. They are okay speeds, people can atleast browse data at an affordable rates compared to 3599. You name suggests you are from Tamil Nadu. Recently BSNL has updated coverage MAP of 4G LTE of Chennai. Soon coverage will expand in Tamil Nadu as well. 700Mhz working well in Karnataka. Not sure about Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

If Airtel can invest in 11000 sites in Kerala, Vi+BSNL can do that as well. Have positive frame of mind.
