Bitcoin creator Craig Wright reveals identity

52073393.cms

Australian entrepreneur Craig Wright has publicly identified himself as Bitcoin creator Satoshi Nakamoto, according to a report in BBC.

Wright is said to have revealed his identity to the BBC, the Economist and GQ.

With this, the years of speculation about the creator of the digital currency Bitcoin ends. According to the report, Wright has provided technical proof to back up his claim. The report also said that some Wright's claim has also been backed by some prominent members of the Bitcoin community and its core development team.

During his meeting with BBC team, Wright digitally signed messages using cryptographic keys which were created during the early days of Bitcoin's development.

The keys, according to the report, "are inextricably linked to blocks of Bitcoins known to have been created or "mined" by Satoshi Nakamoto."

In December, Wired magazine too identified Wright as the probable creator of cryptocurrency Bitcoin

According to experts, 2016 could prove to be the year that the price of Bitcoin surges again. Daniel Masters, co-founder of Jersey-based Global Advisors' multi-million dollar Bitcoin hedge fund, told Reuters in DEcember 2015, that the price of Bitcoin could test its 2013 highs of above $1,100 next year and then pick up speed to rise to $4,400 by the end of 2017.

According to Masters (as per the Reuters report), this could be due to a number of factors, including an increased acceptance of payments in bitcoin by big companies and authorities, rapidly growing interest and investment in the "blockchain" technology that underpins bitcoin transactions, and also more demand from China as its currency weakens and the economy slows.

In 2014, a NewsWeek cover story titled "The Face Behind Bitcoin," wrongly identified Dorian Satoshi Nakamoto as the inventor of Bitcoin.

In October last year, Nakamoto created a web page asking people for donations to support his fight to sue NewsWeek for what he termed being "targeted and victimized by a reckless news organization."
