SoftBank Group is exploring assembling a group of bidders for TikTok’s India assets and has been actively looking for local partners, according to people familiar with the matter.
Over the past month, the Japanese conglomerate, which owns a stake in Tik-Tok’s Chinese parent Byte-Dance, has held talks with the heads of Reliance Jio Infocomm and Bharti Airtel, the people said, asking not to be identified because the details are private.

ByteDance owned short video app TikTok, which has been banned since June end following border hostilities between India and China is working on a comeback strategy for India, people familiar with the matter said. TikTok has been hunting for partner firms for functions such as legal, policy and advocacy and communications in India and has shortlisted a few companies, the people cited above said.

China's ByteDance is said to be exploring the sale of the India operations of TikTok to rival unicorn Glance, Bloomberg News reported on Saturday.

The discussions, initiated by Japan's SoftBank Group Corp, are private, early and complex, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.

Glance's parent, mobile advertising technology firm InMobi, also owns short-video app Roposo that has gained in popularity after TikTok was banned by the Indian government in July last year.
SoftBank is a backer of InMobi Pte as well as TikTok's Chinese parent, ByteDance, the report added.
